• This ceremony is performed during the 2, 3, 5, 10, 11 and 12th Tithi of Shukla Paksha and only 2, 3 and 5th Tithi during Krishna Paksha. Upanayana ceremony is performed in the morning and afternoon. Yagyapavit should not be performed if the child is suffering from a disease.
• If we talk about days, then Wednesday Thursday and Friday of all the seven days of the week are considered to be auspicious for the commemoration of the Janeu ceremony. Apart from these 3 days, Sunday is mildly favourable and Monday is very less auspicious to organise the Janeu ceremony. Meanwhile Tuesdays and Saturdays are considered to be highly inauspicious for the ceremony which is why these should be kept in mind while planning a date for the Janeu Sanskar.
• Talking about the Nakshatras, the most auspicious Nakshatras are Hasta, Chitra, Swati, Pushya, Ghudha, Ashwini, Mrigashira, Punarvasu, Shravan and Revathi. Apart from this, if you are not able to perform Janeu ceremony in these Nakshatras, then you can perform Janeu rites in any other Nakshatras except Bharani, Kritika, Magha, Visakha, Jyestha, Shatabhisha Nakshatra during which it is forbidden to perform the Upanayana ceremony. Performing the Upanayana rites of Vipra Batukas is also prohibited in Punarvasu Nakshatra.

How to Celebrate Janeu Sanskar Ceremony 2021?

• A Yajna ceremony is organised for the commemoration of the Janeu ceremony.
• The whole family of the boy takes part in the ceremony.

• First and foremost, the boy's Mundan ceremony is conducted on this day and once it is done, a small knot of hair is tied on the back of the head.
• Once the Mundan is done, the child should be given a paste of Saffron and Sandalwood to the part of the head which has been shaved off.
• The Janeu should be made to wear from the child's left shoulder towards the right arm.
• The thread which is given to the child to wear is prepared ritualistically. The actual color of the Janeu thread is white and it is painted yellow before the child is made to wear it.
• Once the Guru Dakshina is taken, the Janeu should not be removed from the body.
• Hawan is also performed during Upanayan Sanskar. The necessary rites and rituals are followed and prayers are offered to the deities. The boy is made to cover his body partially and made to sit at the Yajna place. It should be kept in mind that the child should wear non stitched dress items all by himself.
• The boy whose Janeu Sanskaar ceremony is to be conducted soon is given a yellow piece of cloth to tie around his neck and wooden sandals to wear.
• meditate on the Gayatri Mantra ten times and eulogize the Lords. Promise the child to offer him knowledge about Shastras and fulfillment of the fasts.
• The boy is made to sit with his friends and given sweets(Churma) to eat.
• Later on, the boy is made to take a bath and his Guru, father and elder brother recites the Gayatri Mantra and says "You are a Brahmin from today".
• Afterwards, the lad is made to wear Mekhla according to the Varna when the priest hands over Munja to Brahman lad, a bow string to a Kshatriya lad and a yarn thread to a Vaishya lad and finally made to wear a Kondhni with them.
• Along with the Mekhla, the child is given a bat using which the child is asked to beg from the people present in the ceremony.
• The boy keeps the bat on his shoulder and says, "I am going to Kashi for further studies".
• Later on, some people bring him back by saying that he is going to be married soon. Only after this the boy is considered to be a Brahman and the ceremony gets completed successfully.
